The Curious Case of Aadhar Cards that were Lost & Found & Lost or Whatever....

I received this message today on my Whatsapp

Do baatein hamesha yaad rakhna:

Har insaan itna bura nahin hota jitna ‘pan-card’ aur ‘aadhar card’ mein dikhta hai.
Aur itna accha bhi nahin hota jitna ‘facebook’ aur ‘whatsapp’ par dikhta hai.

When translated in English it means, "Always remember two thing that people don't look as bad as they look on their Pan Cards & Aadhar cards. But they don't look as good as they look in their Facebook/ Whatsapp profiles.

I couldn’t help but agree with the message. Now see this image and judge.

The Image that is embedded in the main photo looks like a mug shot taken from a police station. All you need to add there is "Wanted" :D

I remember that  I had asked the responsible person there to take another photo of mine and he had quipped, ‘madam this is not a studio’. I think I wrote about this incident here. I am sure most of us would cringe when we see our images on the Aadhar Card (AC). You are nodding na? I knew!!

I have so many stories associated with AC's that I can share here. Did I tell you the story about how I had managed to lose all the Aadhar cards at home?? *giggles*

Well I took up the responsibility of carrying all (Mine, Hubby's, FIL's & MIL's) the cards with me so that I could
  • Scan them
  • Get the details updated in our respective bank accounts
  • Get their photo copies.
I in my typical manner carried them for days procrastinating the things that I was supposed to do with the AC's. Then one day I realised or rather felt that the bag which had all the AC's was missing from my biiiig handbag but I was not sure. I mean when I was fumbling my way through the bag I felt that AC's were missing but I was not sure. So what would a sane person do in this case? Will check the bag properly. Right? And what did I do?

I chose to ignore the issue because I felt that if the cards are lost I would be in pits and declared irresponsible so very responsibly I ignored the problem hoping that they will reappear miraculously one day. In the meanwhile my FIL asked me once in a while whether I had done the needful or not. I utilised my Marketing MBA degree to the fullest and gave some crap which satisfied him. So after 10 days of ignoring the issue I delved into my bag and my doubts were proven right. I checked my room and every nook and corner but could not find the cards. I was like in total shit. I mean getting the cards was in itself an ordeal and I had lost them just like that.

What would a sane person do in this case? Do I need to answer that? And do you think I did what was expected from me?

Aaah! You know me well.

So after keeping the info with me for 3 days I finally shared my woes with hubby dearest (I realised that by not telling him about the lost cards would not get the cards back. What the Heck! When they didn't come back in 15 days how would they walk in now) and told him.  When I said that I should probably tell my FIL but I am scared he laughed at me!!! :-\  He was enjoying my agony and expected me to solve my problem myself. So mature of him! Huh!

Couple of days later the inevitable happened. My FIL asked about the cards and I blurted out everything. When he asked that why had I not told this to him before, I was honest and said, "I was scared". At that he started laughing. When he laughed I was relieved and I smiled too.

Relieved because I felt that probably he had found the cards when I had dropped them. This went for an hour. He laughed and I said the cards are for sure with him. He refused and would start laughing again....it went on & on before he finally said that he was laughing at the way I handled the situation and he honestly didn't have the cards.

We then got in damage control mode and to cut the long story short I discovered that there is no need get a duplicate card and you can always download you E-Card from here all you need to have is your enrollment slip. We were mighty relieved and impressed. You know you can even update your address and other details on the website, scan the proof and send it to them? Impressive na? So we got our Aadhar Cards downloaded and were happy that there were no major hiccups.

A month later the cards were discovered by hubby. They were lying behind the cupboard. How it reached there is something that only the cards know. Yes, I believe they walked over there :P

So this time I took them with me did what I was suppose to do diligently and gave them back to FIL for safekeeping. But can things be so simple in my life? No!

I had retained my card with me because I needed it to show at some bank.

Last known I have misplaced the card yet again. FIL has quit asking me about it.
Only relief is that I have downloaded a copy :D and will now take a coloured print out of the same after updating the new address. Am Isssmart na? ;-)

  2. I read on Kajal's blog that the person at the counter asked her to select the best pic for her Aadhar Card. Hope we are clicked like pics on FB too. We submitted our AC forms yesterday and are called tomorrow to the Post Office. While you have had the ACs and then lost and found them and lost them again, ours have still not seen the light of the day! The download option is cool. Thanks for sharing that!

  5. That message on your phone was spot on. Our pp photos make us look like unsmiling, deadpan, humourless morons. They've made strides in every field but taken a huge step backwards in face recognition technology.

  12. Only you can make an Aadhar Card story so hilarious Smita. And I totally believve in that message. Whoever created that is a genius. You know, we will upload pictures and people will comment 'wow', 'awesome' and what not. Ab if the picture wasn't good, will I willingly put it up on my FB! I knew before even I went for the card that the picture will not be any horrific than the one I had on my Voter ID Card.
And that piece of info is extremely useful that we can download. I am yet to get my card. I applied only when they finally came to my society.
